GUIDELINES

The Joe Barnhart Bee County Library will be offering the "Dig into Reading" Summer Reading Program for children through 8th grade. The program will run from June 3rd - August 23rd.

How To Participate

  • Participants and responsible parties must have a library account in good standing (No fines and updated contact information).
  • A participant must have a parent/guardian fill out the registration form at any service desk.
  • Participants will receive a reading log and program pamphlet.
  • Staff will recommend a reading section for the participant on their reading log.

Reading Section

Children will be recommended a reading section (Easy, Juvenile, or Young Adult) to read from.

Easy Reading section is for children through 3rd grade.

Juvenile emblem

Juvenile section is for 4th - 6th grade, this includes all Juvenile labeled novels and non-fiction books.

Young Adult emblem

Young Adults is for 7th & 8th grade, includes all Young Adult labeled novels, non-fiction books, and graphic novels.

 

For every book you read above your recommended level you get 25% of the page total of that book added on.

But the book has to be completed for the bonuses to kick in.

Guidelines

  • Reading logs are signed by parents and librarians.
  • Pre-signing reading logs is not allowed.
  • Participants may have up to two (2) parents, legal guardians, or caretakers eligible to sign reading logs.
  • All participants must read at their grade level or above to receive prizes.
  • Participants may be read-aloud to, as long as the title is at or above the participant's reading level.
  • There is no limit on the number of pages participants may submit for raffle tickets.
  • Smaller prizes will be limited. First come, first served.

    Raffle prizes addendum:
    Any participant selected to win two (2) or more raffles prizes will be asked to re-draw the raffle ticket for a new winner.


Any violation of the above guidelines will result in the participant being suspended from receiving prizes or raffle chances until the situation is resolved. Parents will be required to meet with the Library Director before the participant is allowed back in the program.

READING PRIZES

Prizes will be distributed every time a child reads 100 pages. In addition to receiving prizes, every time a child reads 200 pages, they will be put in a drawing for a chance to win raffle prizes. These are the raffle drawing dates:

Friday, June 28th at 4:30pm

Wednesday, July 31st at 4:30m

Friday, August 23rd at 4:30pm

  • All entries must be submitted by 4:00pm the same day as drawing.
  • All non-winning entries will still be held for future drawings.
  • Winners do not have to be present during the drawing; they will be contacted by phone.
  • If a winner does not claim prize within one week, the prize will be used as an additional prize in the next drawing.
